How It Works

Three steps, 20–40 seconds. Powered by Claude AI.

1

Read & Summarize Claude AI

Claude reads the full article and produces a concise executive summary capturing the main argument and key assertions — calibrated to article complexity.

2

Structure the Detailed Breakdown Claude AI

The article is decomposed into named sections — Context / Background, Key Findings, and Implications — so you can see what's established, what's new, and what it means.

3

Assess Political Lean Claude AI

Claude evaluates the article's framing, language choices, and source selection to assess political lean — with a high bar for attribution. Center is the default unless evidence requires otherwise.

Political Lean Tiers

Each article gets one of five lean ratings, plus a confidence indicator (High or Low) reflecting how strongly the evidence supports the assessment.

Left

Clear progressive framing, source selection, and language choices.

Center-Left

Mild progressive lean detectable in tone or framing.

Center

Balanced reporting without partisan framing — the default.

Center-Right

Mild conservative lean detectable in tone or framing.

Right

Clear conservative framing, source selection, and language choices.

Center is the default. News-Distiller only flags a non-Center lean when there is direct, observable evidence in the article — specific phrasing, framing, source choices, or omissions. This high evidentiary bar prevents over-attribution of bias and keeps the political lean indicator meaningful.
